Road Closures & Cable Installation

Low Carbon has contracted Ethical Power Connections, an independent connections provider (ICP) to manage the installation of these cables and the connection of the solar farm.

Connect Highways are a contractor for Ethical Power managing the above-mentioned highways work. These works will involve the installation of new high voltage electricity cables from Layer Solar Farm on Birch Road to the Sub Station on Abberton Road.

The works commenced on 6th November 2023 and will continue until 10th March 2024, with a combination of various types of traffic management. Access will be maintained for residents and emergency services.

  • Birch Road works will be completed by the 19th January 2024.
  • Abberton Road works will be completed by the 10th March 2024.

  • Residents living in the affected roads have been provided with a ‘resident car sticker’ to enable ease of access to their properties.
Construction Access information

How will the site be accessed during construction?

Vehicles will access the Site from the A12 at junction 23 / 24 then follow the B1023 and B1026 to Church Road. This is the most direct route to/from the Site, utilising the local road hierarchy and avoiding any height and weight restrictions and is consistent with the arrangements outlined in the planning application materials.

All construction vehicles will travel to / from the Site via Church Road where an existing access serving the southern parcel will be utilised. Construction vehicles bound for the northern parcel will then travel through the southern parcel and access the northern parcel via Birch Road.

Hours of Site Operation

Throughout the construction period, normal construction working hours will be restricted to:

  • 08:00 – 18:00 Monday to Friday; and,
  • 08:00 – 13:00 Saturday
